Q: I need help with the suspension on my 1991 GMC 1500. I just purchased 2” front lowering springs and 3” rear leaf springs. When I installed the parts it only lowered the front of my truck 1” (not the 2” I thought I was going to get) and the rear only came down 1”. Why didn’t the truck drop the full 2” and 3” that I wanted?

A: Matt. You didn’t say how many miles are on your truck, but since it’s a 1991 it probably has enough mileage to have worn out the original springs. My guess is that the lowered springs did not give you the drop you were looking for because the original springs had already lowered the truck about an inch. Lowered springs will only drop a truck the specified amount from the height of a new stock truck. As the springs wear and sag the ride height drops. So when you changed the springs, the truck did not lower the amount specified. But, if you were to compare that to the original ride height, the numbers would most likely match up.
