Q: I've got a 2002 Ford F-150 Lightning. I want to install a suspension lowering kit but am unsure which kit to purchase. I have heard that the Ford F150 Lightning already has a lowered suspension from the factory. Does that mean that I can't install a 3"/4" lowering kit? - SGT Jeremiah Derek, US Army
A: Jeremiah,
It's true that the Ford F150 Lightning does have a lowered suspension setup from the factory. The front is lowered with a set of 1" drop coil springs and the rear is lowered 1" with de-arched leaf springs. You can lower the truck further, it's just a little more complicated than other trucks. Check it out.
If you want to drop your truck three inches in the front and four inches in the rear, then pay attention. Scrap the factory coil springs and replace them with DJM 2" lowered coil springs (Part # CS30972). Then replace your upper and lower control arms with DJM 4" lower control arms (Part # CA3097L4) and the DJM upper control arms (Part # CA3097U) that go with them.
This combination will drop your F150 Lightning three inches in the front (but it will be four inches lower than a standard Ford F-150).
Now for the rear. Lowering the rear of the Ford F150 Lightning is actually pretty simple. Just use the DJM 4" hanger and shackle kit (Part # HS30974). This will drop your F-150 lightning four inches in the rear (but it will be five inches lower than a standard Ford F-150).
