Q: With so many different types of headlight bulbs, how do I know which is the best for me? Gary – Fort Worth, TX
A: There are a lot of choices when it comes to headlight bulbs and here is where the phrase "you get what you pay for" is true. There are basically two types of bulbs, off road and street legal. You can also get them in a variety of color tints and many simulate the look of HID bulbs. Unless you are running the Baja 1000 I would stay with the street legal type. You can find low price bulbs in your local discount stores, but these tend to burn out very quickly and not provide the performance you would expect. For a good quality bulb you can expect to pay between $30 and $70 per pair.
Choose a bulb that fits your needs or wants. If you are just interested in the color, then you can choose a bulb in the lower price range. If you want a true high performance bulb from a manufacturer like PIAA the cost is going to be on the higher end but you will be getting a long lasting bulb that gives superior performance over your stock bulbs.
