Q: I was told that putting an electric fan on my truck will give me more power and better fuel mileage. If this is true why didn’t my truck come with one from the factory? Marty – Gardena, CA
A: Yes this is true. If your truck has a belt driven fan, replacing it with an electric fan will give you power and fuel mileage gains. Your stock fan is driven from the engine by a belt. This draws power from the engine that could be used to move your truck. By changing to an electric fan that does not draw power directly from the engine it will give you increased power, mileage and in most cases better cooling. Electric fans cost more to produce so the auto manufactures save money by not installing them as original equipment.
